Crimea: Fait Accompli?
Can you see Crimea as a constituent part of the Russian Federation, exercising the same rights offered to its other multi-national, multi-ethnic members? How the constitutional rhetoric translates into political reality in a post-Soviet space badly crippled by a multitude of socio-pollitical pathologies is an open question, but this fate may not be open to serious question. Is a "Russian" Crimea a fait accompli? Can you really see this being reversed? Is any other outcome better for the United States? Think a bit about alternative futures from where we are now -- not from where we might have been -- and show me one that's more attractive.
